D.I.Y MIDI SKIRT AND BANDEAU TOP

Seemed like a long week. But I am back again doing what I love to do, show you guys how you can look like a 100$ with less than 10$. Doesn’t that sound great! No need to go bargain for an outfit while you can do it. Why spend 8000ksh on an outfit when you can spend 500ksh? I know… I know… HOW? You simply do it. You don’t need sewing skills, but if you do have some!? Great! Okay, this is not “who’s the cheapest contest” but how we can all look fabulous on a budget. By budget I mean low budget. I am a broke girl, most of us are. Why? Because we don’t own any property, have a stable income, some of us are jobless, still dependent, don’t own a car, still in school and have nothing in our bank accounts, very little or we don’t even have a bank account. If you fit anywhere here, you are broke! And welcome to my blog.

Today we are going to turn rags to riches. Yes you’ve heard that term before, so have I but we are taking it to the extreme. I always go big and if I can push it? Bigger! It’s going to be, Fa-fa-fabulous with a sexy touch of vavavoom. Let’s get started, I am just too excited.

WHAT WE NEED:

-          Scissors

-          A needle and Thread

-          A strapless dress or a strapless top

   

If you do not have a strapless dress or a strapless top; Don’t worry, You can get for as little as 50bob ( Ngara, Kawangware, Gikomba or anywhere on the street in Nairobi). But please make sure that the fabric is elastic. This is necessary. My dress is actually a balloon dress that I stopped wearing for a long time and came across it the other day, and was like “This is an awesome fabric” Then couldn’t wait for Friday.

PART 1…. OF THE OUTFIT

STEP ONE:

Cut the dress or the top below the chest area and a few inches more, because you are going to need those inches, to do the sewing.

STEP TWO:

Start sewing the extra inches back inside the upper part of the dress that you just cut. And you are done. You have yourself a Bandeau top.

If you think it’s a bit too revealing for you, you don’t have to dress it the way I did, you can wear it with a denim, with a maxi skirt and a waterfall top.

PART 2…. OF THE OUTFIT

Here unless you have sewing skills, Congrats! you can do this on your own, without spending a dime. But for the rest of us who don’t have sewing skills or own a sewing machine. Still easier, Take it to the tailor “Fundi” and ask them to turn the remaining part into a skirt. It will be cheap because not much cutting is required and skirts are fast and easy. This may cost you about 200-300ksh!

AND VOILA!!!

Hello to all my morning people. The hustlers. Trying to get your money and give up sleep. I applaud you. I am a morning person too, because my brain just knows, 6am I am up. I know some of you are thinking “That’s early man” yes it is but I can do it. But what I can’t do is get off the bed, that can take me up to 3 hours, and luckily I work mostly from 10 or later on. Depends on my schedule and what’s to do that week, day or month. Enough about money and hustle. Let’s talk about beauty sleep. Do you ever get puffy eyes in the morning? It can be really frustrating and stressing when you have a big day ahead of you. It’s one of those things that can mess up your whole morning.

Getting rid of that puffiness under your eye should not be a problem anymore. Not everyone needs to know that you don’t get enough sleep, or that you got too much. That’s personal. If you are  thinking, I don’t have time for this, oh you do. You don’t need a whole day, just do it while sipping on your tea.

BENEFITS:

-          Reduces dark circles

-          Removes eye puffiness

-          Healthy (drinking)

WHAT YOU NEED.

- Green tea

You can find green tea, anywhere for around 200-300ksh! For that cheap, you got your own spa at home.

And no I don’t wake up with make up on. This is how I wake up or this is me without make up, I took these photos around 9-10am. So pretty much, this is me in morning.

STEP ONE: 

Make your tea, it’s hard enough waking up in the morning, why not treat yourself to a nice cup of green tea, and again you may not get a chance to have any breakfast, at least sip on something healthy.

STEP TWO:

 Put your tea bags in the freezer for about 5 minutes, while you are sipping on your tea.

STEP THREE:

 Take the tea bags out of the freezer and squeeze any excess water, and place it on your eyes. You can do this while drinking your tea still, place on one eye hold it, and then switch. Once you are done do whatever else you have to do it and you are not looking sleepy anymore. I rubbed the bags on my face. Why? I don’t know, hey it’s morning right? Why not clean my face with some natural healthy leaves?

D.I.Y CUSTOMIZED 

BEANIE

Hi guys! It’s your girl Rshan bringing you another banging post full of swagga. And no! swag ain’t for boys! You are born with it and live with it forever. You either got it or you don’t! I think we got it.

One of the things that make me happy is turning something cheap into something that looks expensive. After all they say Image is everything.

So today we are going to work with beanies. I don’t want to tell you guys what it’s about, so let’s just get started and have some fun.

WHAT YOU NEED:

-          Beanie

-          Studs / needle and string. ( depending on the design you are going for )

-          Scissors

-          Fabric (any) 

   
You can get plain beanies at Gikomba for 50 or less and at Ngara for 100 and at kawangware for 100Ksh! For the studs, as you already know, I buy a belt and take off the studs from the belt, it's cheaper that way, and you can get such a belt for 150ksh or less.

LET’S START WITH DESIGN NUMBER ONE

D.I.Y CUSTOMIZED BAD HAIR DAY BEANIE

STEP ONE and TWO: Cut strings from your fabric and using a needle, draw your letters, numbers or words accordingly. The purpose of this fabric is to give some width to your letters and it also makes it easier for you when doing the next step. The next step is to prepare your needle, with strings, yes double, triple them. I rolled mine 6 times; And go over each letter.

STEP TWO: Place your studs where you want them to be and just punch them in. Note that, you don’t have to do this step, it’s optional.

AND THERE WE HAVE IT!

I have plenty of bad hair days so I guess this will be extremely beneficial to me.

D.I.Y CUSTOMIZED STUDDED BEANIE

First of all, let me just say. 242 is my hood. Representing. All the way from Congo Brazzaville. “242 en fore” Sorry that is just something we say… lol… I am so hood, Hollywood couldn’t change me. :-D Anyway, back to business.

STEP ONE: Lay down your plain beanie and decide on what design you would like. It’s always good to try different things. So I give you guys some ideas for inspiration.

I went with 242 because it’s my hometown so the pride I feel wearing that number is beyond!

It’s mid-week and I am sure some of you may be thinking, what is she doing posting on a Wednesday? Isn't it supposed to be Saturday? Relax, this is exciting. I decided to switch things up a little bit and have beauty mid-week posts. After all, the blog is called, beauty4brokegirls. Yes it’s all about fashion and beauty but we have been focusing too much on fashion and I know you guys enjoy my fashion posts but now we are going to be having mid-week beauty posts. It may not be every week but be expecting some beauty dust from now on.

For our first beauty post, I thought it would be great to talk about “Quick beauty tips”. Something you can do in less than a minute or so and keep it moving. They say the right shoes can step up a whole outfit. I say your make up can take your outfit to a whole new level. Make up is good, it’s good to look beautiful, nothing to do with not liking who you are, think about it, it’s because you just love yourself so much, you make those beautiful features POP!

TURMERIC FACIAL

Ever had one of those days, you have to be somewhere at a certain time, and you look in the mirror, your skin just doesn't look right. So you start freaking out and start thinking; how much powder will I put on today. Well that’s out of the window. This quick inexpensive Indian remedy inspired will hold you together dear. No more panic. I learned about this one day just watching random videos on YouTube. I came across it and realized; everybody was doing it. So I thought why not me. I tried it and it worked like magic. I am not a fan of spending hours trying to get a facial. Doing my nails yes, because I love it. This facial is so good, effective and beneficial, that for a lazy person like me? I run for it only when I see break-outs and it helps, all the time!

Turmeric facial Benefits:

-          Helps get rid of bacteria and prevents bacteria

-          It lightens pigmentation and takes care of discoloration

-          Helps your skin look fresh and young.

-          It slows facial hair growth and nourishes your skin

-          Cures acne! Fast! Speaking from experience.

How to use it:

You are going to need: Milk and Turmeric. The protein in the milk is necessary for your skin, you can also use water but milk is better. about a teaspoon of milk and one and a half teaspoon of turmeric is enough. Mix the turmeric with some milk and apply it on your face, and while doing it, scrub it gently, wait until it dries, scrub it off then wash your face with warm water. Apply some lotion and your face will feel so fresh and clean. I guarantee you, you’ll fall in love.

RED VELVET LIPS

Let me tell you a story about myself, I love red lips and I love to put on makeup. It’s like art, I enjoy seeing all the different looks I can transform into, I have gone Goth, gaga, weirdo. I am not an expert at putting on makeup, not even close but it’s exciting and fun.

This beauty tip is from personal experience. I had the perfect outfit but I didn't have the perfect lipstick. I wanted velvet lips, so my creative little mind went on a mission to figure it out. I thought of going to the store and buy but I didn't want to leave the house without my velvet lips. So I decided to go a little crazy, I put my red lipstick on and decided to put lip liner on too, mixed it up, a bit of gloss and before I knew it, I had velvet lips.
