Hello beautiful people, I hope you are all having an amazing week. I just want to let you know that this is the first time I have ever worked on this project, I have had it in mind for a really long time and now and convinced myself that I had no experience, but I am a risk taker, I did anyway. Today’s post is very fun, exciting and different. We have worked with shoes before, and it was my first ever mixed gender post. Boys actually loved it more than the girls did, you can check it out here: BRITISH FLAG SNEAKERS. We are taking a break from “clothing D.I.Y” and exploring other fashionable goodies. Since it’s quiet long, let’s get started.

WHAT YOU NEED:

-      High heels

-      Ankara material(s)

-      Mirror

-      Fabric glue

-      Super glue

-      Razor

-      Scissors

  

I have had these pumps for over a year now, I got them at 3000Ksh back in 2012. I am not a fan of high heels but they were just too cute, the leather on it was hot, I fell in love, after some time the leather turned out to be fake so started peeling off, as you can see. I love the wooden heel so I did not want to give it up. Use your old high heels or go find one at toy market for 300ksh, pimp it and it will be worth 10 times that.

The Ankara material I got for free, last year when I went back home during elections. I was making bow ties at the time so I needed good material, original, because the Central African Ankara is actually the best, compared to Kenya. So you can get Ankara at your local tailor shop for free. Just be nice and smile.

The mirror you can get for 50-70ksh at any local beauty shop. The Fabric glue, I got for 120 at a craft shop in town, super glus you can find at any local shop or supermarket for about  40ksh. And the razor 20ksh. So total you will need 590ksh to get shoes worth 3500+. Can the deal get any more fabulously cheap.  Loving this post already.

PART 1: D.I.Y SHATTERED GLASS HEELS

STEP 1:

You can decide to do this after the Ankara print or before, but I decided to do it before. This tutorial is very much straight forward, first you will need to break your mirror, small pieces or medium it’s up to you, but too big will not look cute. After you are done breaking the mirror, apply glue either on the shoe where you will want to glass to sit or on the glass then where you want it on the shoe. I decided to do the bottom of the shoe.

If you use a real mirror, your options will be restricted, because remember the mirror does not bend. There is usually fake mirror used, especially because the curved part of the shoe is difficult to work, so the material (fake mirror, I don’t know how it’s called) used, can be bent. I did not bother looking for it, because it’s not the look I was going for.

PART 2: 

ANKARA PRINT HEELS

I love my continent Africa and whoever started this trend is awesome. I love my continent so much, I don’t ever want to leave, I have never wanted to, I don’t have interest in going to the states to Europe like most people do. I want to stay here, fall in love, move to South Africa, get two kids, travel the continent and leave a mark in this world. Enough about me, let’s work.

STEP 1:

Make sure you have everything you need before you begin, that is, Ankara, scissors, fabric glue, and razors. You will also need something to apply the glue to the shoe, to spread it out, I used a cotton stick. Works just fine. First of all, measure your material to the shoe. Please do not make the mistake of cutting the material the shape of the shoe. There are many suggestions that say you should, I say you shouldn’t; especially if it’s your first time. Cut the material a few inches more.

STEP 2:

Apply the glue, spread it and stick the Ankara to it, make sure there are no bumps and if you feel the glue over flow over the anakara, don’t worry, it will dry out, but then it means, reduce the amount of glue next time.

STEP 3:

Because of avoiding bumps, around the curved part of the shoe, where you can see my hand, if you decide to glue up to there, you will obviously get a bump, so you should cut a triangular shape of the Ankara from there, so that when you fold it inside the shoe, the bump does not appear. And so for both shoes, all sides.

STEP 4:

Now let’s do the front part of the heel, you can decide to use the same material or a different one. Measure the Ankara, apply the glue and stick it on, do not worry about the excess material, we  will use razors to fix that.

STEP 4:

Let it dry for a bit, just give it time to rest. Then use your razor to gently cut off the excess material. Be slow, be gentle and be smart…

AND YOU ARE DONE.

BRAND NEW SHOES – OLD TO GOLD

 

NOTE THAT:

-      If you use a real mirror, your options will be restricted, because remember the mirror does not bend. I did not bother looking for it, because it’s not the look I was going for.

-      Using superglue for the Ankara fabric area will be a mistake, because superglue is very liquid and will absorb unto the material, it will look oily, and destroy your shoe.

-      This same method can also work for flat shoes.

- Practice makes perfect

Rock your heels and let everyone know you did them. Let me know too. Hi everyone, I consider myself addicted to the internet, Lately just cruising around as usual, I came across this trending subject that everyone has been doing. The TMI tag, also known as the Too Much Information tag… starts off pretty cool then gets real. I decided to do my version too, so everyone please check it out.  Great news at the end J

2: Ever been in love? :  Yes. I have

3: Ever had a terrible breakup? : I believe most of us have. I have been dumped on the phone, text message or just ignored. Those are not good break ups. I like good break ups, it’s peaceful.

4: How tall are you? : This will be shocking but you will only believe me when you see me face to face. I am 5’00ft

5: How much do you weigh? :  Another shocking fact. I weight 45kg. Sometimes goes up to 47kg but school and life has been stressing me. I really want to hit 50 because I want to donate blood and save a life.

6: Any tattoos? :  Nope.

7: Any piercings? :  Yes. I got 2 on each ear. I also want to get a nail piercing.

8: OTP (One True Pairing) ? :  OMG! I have to say, Ice T and coco.

9: Favorite Show? :  Yes. “World’s Wildest Police videos” . it’s crazy!

10: Favorite bands? :  Lady antebellum. I am a big time country music fan.

11: Something you miss? :  High school. Because I wish I opened up back then, instead of being that awkward girl, that you have seen, don’t know If she goes to your school, you don’t know her name and you don’t care. Or that girl who would eat her lunch in the restrooms because she didn’t fit in, get teased then act like nothing happened. It’s more of; I miss not enjoying high school, or is it I regret?

12: Favorite song? :  My all time favorite is ring the alarm by Beyonce. Because I am a crazy black Congolese woman.  My current favorite is “jealous by Beyonce” and I have to add this “No angel”. Let me just say, I am not a bitter person; I like songs that can relate to my story. I have so many favorites, let me quickly list them; Cold as stone by lady antebellum, If I didn’t have you by Thompson square, rehab by Rihanna, your everything by keith urban, living our love song Jason Michael and lastly she’s everything by keith. Omg, this is TMI for sure! One more I promise, last one “Flaws and all by Beyonce”.

13: How old are you? :  I am 20 years old. Turning 21 end of 2014

14: Zodiac sign? :  Scorpio. We are extremely nice, at the same revengeful, we are creative, jealous, kinky and fall hard, we go all in, 110%.

15: Quality you look for in a partner? :  Strong friendship. I want to be your best friend, not just your partner.

16: Favorite Quote?  :  “It’s okay to floss about your success, you should, You did it. But don’t forget where you came from”

17: Favorite actor? :  Honestly I am not a fan of movies but Kevin hart.

18: Favorite color? :  Pink. My curtains are pink, my bed-sheets are pink, my Pjs are pink, my blog was pink, My nails are pink. Baby pink, hot pink, all shades of pink… I love pink.

19: Loud music or soft? :  Soft music, I never stop thinking, so one ear can listen while the other side of my brain is always thinking.

20: Where do you go when you’re sad? :  My bed and I call my best friend. I shut down, completely. When I am happy, I am happy when I am sad it’s really bad, I look dead but I am around just not alive. “To live doesn’t mean you alive”.

21: How long does it take you to shower? :  All the ladies will be like “Are you serious”. Yes, I do what I need to do, and get out. So 7-15 minutes.

22: How long does it take you to get ready in the morning? :  Now that is what takes up all my time and makes me late. If we ever had a morning meeting or anytime meeting and I was late, blame my mirror and closet. Sometimes I change 5+ times before making a decision on what to wear. But don’t be discouraged to hire me, I work hard, well and I value time. I have none to spare, neither do you, so let’s get serious. I am your girl; I know my stuff, now hit me up.

23: Ever been in a physical fight? :  Yes. It’s vital for life. First experiences of what it feels like getting knocked down, hurts but I got back up every time I got beat up.

24: Turn on? : Oh now we talking TMI... Good smell, killer style, good teeth and dreadlocks. “Now come pull up me room, it too tidy. pop off me Brazilian hair. ;-) Ghetto vocabulary on!  “ I have a thing for them light skin niggas, I like em a bit thickems, I gotta be your queen, We gotta be like bonnie and clyde, Understand I am not perfect but I am perfect to me, I can drop your ass faster than I said yes, I ain’t your bitch, unless there is a bed there and I got heels on, I got my own back, I got my bills and I don’t do fake, unless you are made in china.”

25: Turn off? :  Bad breath, no sense of fashion, excessive drinking, weed, no goals and fakeness

26: The reason I joined Blogger? :  It felt right and fun. You want something? Go do it, tomorrow may be too late. I did just that, and I was bored with my life, not anymore.

27: Fears? :  Rejection, disappointing someone, height, and dogs

28: Last thing that made you cry? :  A few days ago, some crazy woman decided to attack me, pushed me and I am a cry baby, so I cried. **She pushed me hard.

29: Last time you said you loved someone? :  Today

30: Meaning behind your Blogger Name? :  It’s straight forward. Beauty/fashion for less, very little. It’s a lot to do with me, when deciding a name, I was not trying to please anybody but be me. Which is “a broke fashionable woman”. Worked! Better than I thought, even though I thought of changing it after people criticized but I believed in it, I still do, it’s staying.

31: Last book you read? :  In my skin. A book about a drug addict prostitute who kept making bad choices. True story. I don’t like fantasy, life is not a fairy tale, give it to me straight.

32: The book you’re currently reading? : Gender, sex sociology. Now I sound like a total geek. But hey, ain’t beauty and brains a good thing? Now don’t be fooled, comes with serious mood swings, bad temper and a side of comedy. I am shameless.

33: Last show you watched? :  Sister Sister.

34: Last person you talked to? :  My Bff… like always, we are always texting. Every minute there’s a new story.

35: The relationship between you and the person you last texted? :  Business relationship

36: Favorite food? :  Rice and beans, the only sure way to my heart

37: Place you want to visit? :  South Africa. No American dream for me but South African dream.

38: Last place you were? :  The kitchen. I love food

39: Do you have a crush? :  The Question is? Do I ever not have a crush?

40: Last time you kissed someone? :  I honestly do not remember.

41: Last time you were insulted? :  This week by some Youtuber. He said I was a man. I have constant YouTube fights because people do not like honest opinions. I did not provoke him, a fan left a really sweet comment for him saying “You are my inspiration it would mean the world to me if you reply to this” He ignored it, so I told him off; he got pissed and said I was a man. Well at least I got bigger balls.

42: Favourite flavour of sweet? :  Mmmmh sugar. Lol

43: What instruments do you play? :  I can clap.

44: Favorite piece of jewelry? :  You guys already know. I have them all the time lately. My new earrings :-D

45: Last sport you played? :  Walking is a sport, so is shopping. But I did not shop, just wanted to point it out.

46: Last song you sang? :  “Goodbye to the people who hated on me, goodbye to the people who loved me, goodbye to the people who trusted me, goodbye to everybody” For those of you who don’t know it. D.I.Y MY OLD CLOTHES

Another Friday, another fashion post. I enjoy doing collaboration with like-minded people and it excites me to hear about people’s ideas and creativity, you can never learn enough and I am open for new ideas and anything crazy. I will try it. For today’s post, I have to give it up to my friend Carlisle who cam up with the idea. I always do D.I.Y’s from my own closet, my own style and my own likes and preferences. Would I be able to restyle someone else’s closet keeping in mind what their likes and dislikes are? I didn’t know, but as I said I will try anything, I agreed to do it anyway.

FULL OUTFIT BEFORE THE D.I.Y 

We met up and some of the requirements that I was given was that, she will not expose much skin, but still wants to look good. As you all know, I am the expose it all type of person, I am a risk taker, I will go as low as I need to with as little material as possible. Some may say that is “Hoochie” no darling, that’s fashion. Another requirement was to come up with a totally different outfit that it will look like it was never the same outfit. That I am good at, I find it easier to transform than to fix. Carl and I both did not know what we were getting ourselves into but knew we wanted to work out something, of course she gave me her input on what she had in mind, as a stylist/crafter/anything you believe (*Laughing, I don’t know how to call myself). I make sure to know someone’s style first, my style may not be yours, so tell me what you like and my most important goal will be to please you, at the end of the day, you are wearing the clothes not me and it will be an honor if my work becomes part of your favorite clothes, we all have that I believe. My boyfriend jeans, varsity sweater, combat boots and chiffon black dress are top in my closet.

 Knowing Carlisle for a little over a year now, I have a good understanding of her style; it is very different from mine. She is not a fan of colors, while I am. I believe I can rock anything. I had to acknowledge that I was not working with bright colors and much skin. But we still came up with something great at the end. Check it out for yourselves. The before and after of our awesome collaboration, my only tool was my scissors, and that did the work, we turned old to gold.

Guess what! We came up with an accessory out of that D.I.Y too, this is the idea I got from the piece of fabric that was left, I did not cut the ends, I just rolled it twice and put it on my head. Fashion statement; werk it, eriday!

I take photos every week, at least 50 photos per week, my computer has over 2000 photos. I don’t know why I keep them all, but I just do. So after the serious stuff was done, we had some fun. It was fun-shoot moment, and this picture below deserves an awesome caption. We look too cute.

This is how I look after working, I know some may think, its easy work holding scissors and cutting a pair of jeans. Well no it’s not; we have measurements to deal with, sometimes fabric origin, fashion. Anyway I am just trying to sound important. This is a cute picture, I know my shoes look too big, but they are not, I just have skinny feet.

Lastly, I want to thank Carlisle for coming up with this fun Idea and I look forward to doing more of this with other people too. Thank you guys too for 15000+ Views. Last week we will resume our D.I.Y’s as usual unless another Dope idea comes up. The make-up and accessories was by me, including the re-styled outfit. First of all, let me tell you a funny story. I got a call from a really good friend of mine and designer or Zam Apparel that he was involved in some charity work and invited me to it. I was like, yeah sure, I’d love to, he then tells me it’s going to be filmed. I am like “Omg Even better”. The day came, I got all dolled up, camera ready and I get there, I get news that the photography team came instead of the video guys, so it shifted from filming to photography. In my head I was like “My outfit”, yes it was kinda over the top, but hey still I was photo ready. So one loss, another gain.

Fashion Aside, I had the best time of my life, I was touched in ways I haven’t been touched before. What we did that day was to give milk and bread to street kids, street families. One thing about me is, I am a helper, I love to help, those who know me well, sure know I am up to help wherever I can, even if it means putting in 110% effort I will. I will help anybody. It’s because I have been helped a lot growing up. So for that I know how awesome it feels to be helped. It was my pleasure to be part of that, I will do it all, all over again, in fact I will, details of that down below. But first let me tell you how much fun we/I had.

Let’s give it up for the “man” of this beautiful project. Steavie. If there is one quote I live by it is this one “It’s okay to floss about your success, you should. You did it. But don’t forget where you came from.” Yes quote made up by me a long way back. I got the opportunity to talk to steavie and he touched my heart, deep, like way down deep. He was once a street kid but that stereotype did not bring him down or de-motivate him, he is a lawyer today and has devoted himself to helping those that came after him. I applaud this man and look up to him. There is truly pure kind in this world. He brings smiles to their faces, provides health opportunities and most important changes their lives for the better. God bless you.

Nairobi chapel members were around, and written on their T-shirts was “Hospitality and Benolevence”. It is just amazing to see how people come together for a beautiful cause; it’s not material, nothing to do with power, but love, pure kindness. I swear to ya’ll I felt like going to church when speaking to these woman. One thing that stood out for me was this quote, “No one is born poor” find your talent, we are all good at something. I believe it, because these kids and young men had so much talent. There was an 11 year old, updating us about politics, I was amazed and was like “wow, things I know nothing about”.

Still on talent, there was this young man who led prayers and I am telling you, I have never danced like that to a song I can’t hear a word to, I was clapping, smiling, shaking my leg, my head and I was all in.

Before we got to the venue, we made sure that we got something for the kids, milk and bread which is very important as steavie told me, the milk helps to ease and treat reaction to the glue they sniff.

We donated milk and bread, it wasn’t much but at least we made somebody’s day, or people. You don’t need millions to help and make a change into someone’s life. All that you may need is your kind heart, just that. There is no greater happiness to the one of knowing that somebody is happy and smiling because of the little effort you put in.

After they ate and all, that is when the best part came and we got to interact with everyone. We laughed and it felt like high school break time. Can you all see the smile on “Kenneth Mwangi”? I feel like his jaw is about to fall off. Those smiles can’t even express how much fun we had. The kids were so inspiring in their need to make it and I fell in love with everyone there.

I’d like to present you all to my little best friend. Little because I got so many that day, he’s the little one. On my left, giving you the “cover girl” pose is Johnny. He’s too cute and I can’t wait to see him next week. He said I was pretty and wished I could come back again. Like heck yeah honey, I will.

Talking about complements, I got the best declaration of love I have ever gotten in my life. This guy in the picture with me actually sang to me, and wouldn’t let anybody interrupt unless I gave him my number. It was too cute, so to you all trying to woo me. Take notes.

Boys will be boys. Everybody was trying to have their swag captured on camera. So next time we hang out, I will make sure I have jeans on, I want to fit in and be one of the boys, we’ll put the dress aside, because I want to be in this picture letting my swag shine too.

One of the things I learned is that, we all need somebody, even if you are not giving me 24hours of your day, let me see you smile for just 5 seconds and make my day. Show me that there is hope, kindness and love out there. Strip away the fancy bags, Gucci belts, Brazilian weaves and channel dresses. Underneath it all, we are all humans and it is a human need to feel important and feel loved. Do you think you got some love in you that you would love to share with us? Or that 5 second pretty smile? I invite everyone to help inspiring these little kids. They are our future, if we can help now, why not? Don’t just stick to going to orphanages, let’s not forget the street kids, they need love too, they need laughter.
